I never had! A lot of Americans haven’t, but that is about to change…
The most exciting and watched football league isn’t in America. Its the Bundesliga in Germany! To celebrate the start of the new Bundesliga 2015/16 season and the fact that Bundesliga will be seen live in 208 countries across the world. They have produced a great video series to help us Americans get on the bandwagon
The Bundesliga is the number one football (soccer) league in the world in terms of average attendance; out of all sports, its average of 45,134 fans per game was the second highest of any sports league in the world.
A Bit Of History…
The Bundesliga was founded in 1962 in Dortmund and the first season started in 1963. The structure and organization of the Bundesliga along with Germany’s other football leagues have undergone frequent changes right up to the present day. The season starts in early August and lasts until late May, with a winter break of six weeks (mid-December through to the end of January). In recent years, games have been played on Saturdays (five early games and one late game) and Sundays (one early afternoon and one late afternoon). In 2006, they reintroduced a Friday night game.
It has a unique football culture that really sets it apart and really promotes a lot of excitement right up until the last matchday. It also has the most goals per matchday and it is the league of World Soccer Champions FC Bayern Munich.
It also is home to World Cup winners like Phillip Lahm, Mario Götze, Manuel Neuer and Andre Schuerrle. Top U.S. players John Brooks, Fabian Johnson and Aron Johannsson also compete every weekend in one of the most exciting soccer leagues in Europe!
