I’m back with part 2 of my 2014 Summer Movie Preview (Make sure you check out Part 1). This round is primarily made up of sequels. I’m throwing in a raunchy comedy and a sci-fi action film from The Wachowski’s for good measure.
Here are another 5 films that will be hitting the screen this summer.
A Million Ways To Die In The West (May 30) – Seth MacFarlane struck comedy gold with the movie Ted, can he do it twice? The cast includes Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, MacFarlane and Sarah Silverman. If you’re a fan of all things MacFarlane, this film will not disappoint. If his sense of humor is too much for you… stay far away. The red band trailer is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time. But, it certainly isn’t for the easily offended.
22 Jump Street (June 13) – When 21 Jump Street was released in the Spring of 2012, I wasn’t expecting much. It turned out to be one of the funnier films of that entire year. The pairing of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum was really fantastic. The sequel finds the guys enrolling in college and going deep undercover. One very important factor to making the action comedy genre work, is the need for an angry captain… Welcome back Ice Cube!!!
Transformers 4: Age of Extinction (June 27) – I was not a big fan of the previous three films. I thought they were loud and obnoxious, a lot of style over substance. But, even I’m intrigued when you add Mark Wahlberg into the mix. Did I mention that it’s rumored the Dinobots might make an appearance. Yeah, I said it, DINOBOTS!!!
Dawn Of Planet Of The Apes (July 11) – This sequel picks up 15 years after the genetically altered simians of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes made their way to the Northern California forest. Humanity has been decimated by the very virus they created. A small band of survivors have come to a shaky peace with Caesar and the evolved apes. Their agreement doesn’t last long. “Rise…”  was a great remake. Let’s hope they don’t fall into the pattern of the previous series of films. Each one was worse than the other.
Jupiter Ascending (July 18) – As a HUGE fan of The Matrix, I’ve been waiting for The Wachowski’s to make another film that even comes close to the originality of that one. It hasn’t happened yet, not even close. The trailer is absolutely over the top and mindbending. Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis (Good Googly Moogly… She is REALLY good looking!) and Game Of Thrones’ Sean Bean. Let’s hope it’s as good as it looks.
There are literally hundreds of movies being released this summer. Let me know what summer movies you’re looking forward to.
