The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has been expanding quite rapidly over the past few years. Marvel had conquered the film box office with every movie they released, but were still a little lacking when it came to their presence on the small screen. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a loyal following, yet had failed to cause a real buzz like the film releases had done.
Netflix Helped Change All That
When Netflix announced its partnership with Marvel, a lot of fanboys/fangirls began to get very excited. Netflix began to develop shows that revolved around and focused on the “Flawed Heroes of Hell’s Kitchen” (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Power Man, Iron Fist and The Defenders).
The first series, Daredevil, was seen by over 4 million Netflix users in its first 11 days of streaming. Those are VERY impressive numbers for a first season show. We can only assume that Marvel’s Jessica Jones is going to be seen by just as many or more. For those of you who don’t know her back story (I’m sure there are a few)…
Her short-lived stint as a super hero ended with tragic results. Now, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, private detective in Hell’s Kitchen. She is plagued by self-loathing and a really bad case of PTSD. She was left broken by Zebediah Killgrave aka “The Purple Man”. Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities to help those in need… She especially likes helping if they’re willing to pay her.Â
Krysten Ritter as “Jessica Jones”
David Tennant as Zebediah Killgrave aka “The Purple Man”
Here’s The Trailer:
The character of Jessica Jones is a very important step for Marvel. There has been a lack of women as lead characters and there are a lot of fangirls that are wanting a hero to root for. I think Marvel’s Jessica Jones is what they have been waiting for!
