Everybody has there own taste when it comes to BBQ. Some people like North Carolina style, others like a Texas spin. One of my favorite types of BBQ is Memphis style. A good dry rub and a little time… You can’t beat it! This recipe is one of my family’s most well loved dishes because it can be made in the Crock Pot, where it simmers all day, taking in the flavor of the dry rub. I hope you love this Memphis Style Pulled Pork Recipe as much as we do!

Okay, I want to know what the BBQ sauce is in the background! LOL
It’s what I like to call the “juice”. It’s the drippings from the Crock Pot mixed with an extra 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup of siracha and 1/4 cup molasses. Put it in the fridge for 2 hours, so the fat separates, cut the fat of the top and then shake vigorously. It’s sweet, spicy, savory and light. This is one of my favorite types of sauce.
Hmmm . . . . . . I will just use a fat separator and then add the rest of the stuff. An excellent idea!
Just finished shredding the pork and took a little taste! It is delish. I’m making the sauce now… how much of the drippings do you use in proportion to the other ingredients?
Oh I LOVE pulled pork. Thank you for sharing your version – always happy for an excuse to try out another!
Oh my! That looks lip smacking good!
Is it sad Im making a list of things I need to get as I look at blogs? lol I need a pork butt! LOL
Umm…Looks so good! Already have all the stuff and putting it in the crock pot in the morning. Can’t wait 🙂
I just made this. All I changed was the addition of some chipotle. Cracking pulled pork recipe!
In the pot now…can’t wait to try it!
This is the ticket! I use basically the same recipe and Boston butt (same cut) and slow cook outdoors for eight hours in hickory wood smoke fire. Delicious! Thanks for sharing the sauce Sirachi add, gonna have to try that one.
Ok, Rick. This looks really good.
It is in the crockpot as I type this.
Don’t know why, couldn’t stop myself from adding one, large, halved, onion to the top before placing the lid.
Very glad I read the comments or I would of missed the ‘juice’ recipe. That looks *really* good.
All I can say, this had better be good. (I’m feeling confident this will be by new go to recipe 🙂
We loves us some amazing pulled pork.
Just got it shredded!! DELISH!! The sauce rocks too. I did take the sauce and boil it for about 30 min to reduce it some…YUM. Thanx for a great pulled pork recipe! I will never bother to look for a new one again!
How many people does this recipe serve, and I wonder if you would recommend preparing a day ahead of time?
How is this recipe when prepared a day ahead of time and how many does this serve?
Holly, don’t know if it still matters or not . . . I always prepare my pulled pork a day in advance. After shredding I put it in a crockpot crock, pour a little of the cooking juice over it, and heat it the next day. Still very tasty. I would say this would easily feed 4 to 6 people. I always cook 2 butts because I am cooking for 15. Hope this helped.
In the crock pot as we speak. Your sauce or juice sounds great. Thanks for posting.
Excellent recipe…I lived in Memphis 7 years and can say this is comparable to any pulled pork I had while I was there, even the one that smoke theirs…and I made it a point to try every BBQ joint there…love it. My new go-to recipe!!
i had a bit of the rub left in the bowl which made me nervous .its in the crock pot and excited to try
I made this yesterday for our super-bowl party. It was absolutely delicious! The best pulled pork I’ve ever had. Thank you for the recipe. I’ll be making it again.
if using an 8lb butt, how long should I cook it for??
store only had 2lb, going to make with that but would I cut all ingredients in half or ok to use full amounts still?
I would still use the full amounts. When I have extra seasoning, I just put it away for later or sprinkle it on some veggies.
I made this yesterday & I will have to say it was sooo good! My 5 yr. old daughter loved it! It was probably the best pulled pork I’ve had in a very long time if not ever! So easy & used ingredients I already had on hand….yuuuum!!
Hi, its good piece of writing about media print, we all understand media is a great source of information.
Can you use honey in place of the molasses
Yes Kim. Absolutely.
Made this recipe for the second time, yesterday. This is by far my favorite pulled pork recipe! So many other recipes are overly sauced or too sweet. The only addition I made this time is a couple of drops of Liquid Smoke and some Smoked Paprika. It is delicious as written and with my additions…thanks for sharing your recipe!
Hi Rick,
I would like yo make this to have while watching the Patriots Sunday. But I would like to use up a boneless pork roast I’ve had in the freezer. Any suggestions on how to adjust the cooking? Also have you ever tried topping this style of pulled pork with coleslaw?
Thanks,
Leigh
What do i do with the leftover rub? Sprinkle over top the pork in the crockpot?
You can. I like to sprinkle it over the veggies that I’m serving.
Does the apple cider vinegar give it a sour or tart taste?
